It can be argued that history turns on simple questions and depending on how they are answered dictates the future.
We are facing a post-pandemic future that seems bleak and uncertain for the simple reason that we are yet to discover the one question that will decide our collective future.
The End Covid The Third Way campaign poses such a question and depending on how it is answered may well determine the future, including preventing the worst economic downturn since the Great Depression.
What is the question?
Should corporate social responsibility be extended to include the funding of the nonprofit sector?
Prior to the pandemic the global economy was well on its way to reaching US$100 trillion per year. If, for instance, the funding was set at 1% of revenue then about $1 trillion will have flowed automatically through the nonprofit sector.
Imagine what the world would be like if $1 trillion was distributed annually to all the nonprofit organisations whose focus is not on creating profits but on building and maintaining social capital.
Imagine how the $1 trillion could become $5 trillion per year at a flick of a switch to deal with existential crises like climate change, economic revolutions like job automation and health crises like the COVID-19 pandemic.
Imagine the relief of no longer having to lobby or rely on politicians, take to the streets or fume on social media about corporate excess to achieve social justice and social equality.
We now have the technology to answer the above-mentioned question in the affirmative and the Trruster initiative provides the mechanism and the means to make the concept a reality.
We call this the New Third Way.
Martin Luther King, Jr. once observed that “There is nothing new about poverty. What is new, however, is that we now have the resources to get rid of it.” He went on to lay the challenge for future generations by stating that: “There is no deficit in human resources; the deficit is in human will.”
Technology now enables us to revisit Dr King’s challenge and, this time, start to address the most pressing and intransigent global problems by first addressing the “human will” deficit by simply voting on the most pressing 21st century question.
Vote now and let’s become the generation that realizes Dr Kings remarkable dream of a better world for everyone, everywhere.
